Finally, after bad weather stopped play last Friday - thanks medicanes - today was concrete day!
We got there bright and early so we could both a) see the concrete going in and b) be there to pay for it. We realised we were slightly ahead of the curve when we passed the concrete lorry 8km outside the village
Imagine our surprise to see what looked like ten or so ten-metre fire hoses being connected along the street and into our house. It turns out that there is no way to get the truck closer than 80 metres away, so we needed a pump and pipes to get the concrete in and poured on each floor in turn
The expert, David, was busy measuring his screed tripods, to ensure we ended up with level floors
His colleagues were connecting pipes to the pump
And then there it was. The concrete truck....
Walkie talkies in hand, they were ready to go
Except it wouldn't go
Nothing would get as far as the house, let alone up two flights of stairs. Oh dear!
After many phone calls back and forth to absent colleagues. Much tutting and huffing. And about three and a half hours of unscrewing and rejoining the pipes, we were all systems go
Six hours after we arrived, the two hour job was done
We. Have. Concrete
